Downloading Service Packs and Upgrades

Special Note to Anthology / PCCharge Users : In order to comply with industry requirements for increased security concerning credit card handling; Anthology has added new functionality beginning in version 4.5.001 and higher to meet these demands. As a result customers using PCCharge software for credit card authorization will be required to upgrade their PCCharge Payment Server to version 5.7.1D or higher before applying any Anthology upgrade higher than 4.5.001 to their system.

Summary: If you upgrade to a version of Anthology 4.5.001 or higher you MUST be on PCCharge Payment Server version 5.7.1d or higher. If not your PCCharge will stop working. If you are interested in upgrading your Anthology system - you should make arrangements with PCCharge to upgrade their Payment Server to the proper version BEFORE you upgrade your Anthology software. Click here to read the full story.

Please read before you upgrade your Anthology system

Although Anthology upgrades are easy to apply there are still situations, such as lack of network permissions that may cause these installations to run unsuccessfully and in some cases deny you access to the Anthology software. Because of this we at Anthology ask that you plan your system updates so they coincide with Normal Support hours (9am to 5pm Monday thru Friday). Anthology Emergency Support is not designed to aid in recovering from such an incident.

NOTE: Version 5 is an upgrade and must be installed on the server and all workstations in your Anthology network. There have been several changes to the software and Anthology has prepared a "What's New" document in PDF format for you to review. To view this document [Click Here].

Installing Upgrades

Downloading

  • First - You should back up your Visual Anthology files.
    • From the Visual Anthology menu choose the Tools | Quick Backup menu option and follow the on screen instructions.
  • Access the FTP download site.
  • Double click on the Upgrade5.14.002.exe file.
  • A file download message box appears asking you Open, Save or Cancel. Choose Save.
  • Next you are asked to choose a directory to save the file to on your system. Choose the same directory where your Visual Anthology is installed. This is generally on the Server or Stand Alone computer in the C:\Program Files\Anthology directory.
  • After the file download is complete the service pack file will be in your C:\Program Files\Anthology directory. Using Windows Explorer navigate to this directory.
  • Make sure Visual Anthology isn't running on any computer and double click on the downloaded file (upgrade5.14.002.exe).
  • Follow the instructions below for running the Upgrade.

Installing Server/Stand Alone Upgrade - You will need to perform the next steps on the server/stand alone computer first. These instructions assume you are sitting at this computer.

  • You will need to contact Anthology Support (231) 933-0093 to obtain the password.
  • Using Windows Explorer navigate to the C:\Program Files\Anthology directory.
  • Make sure Visual Anthology isn't running on any computer. It is always a good idea to close all other programs as well and we recommend that you do. Double click on the downloaded file (Upgrade5.14.002.exe).
  • Follow the on screen instructions for running the Upgrade.
  • On the third screen titled "Type of Upgrade" you should select the option Server or Stand Alone if not already selected. Click Next.
  • The next screen asks you to choose the location. The default is C:\Program Files\Anthology, if this is correct click Next. If not, use the browse button to select the correct location. Warning: You cannot "push" the upgrade to another computer on the network. If you attempt to do this, the computer you are attempting to upgrade will not be upgraded correctly.
  • You are now ready to start the upgrade. Click Next.
  • You should have already contacted Anthology Support for the password.
  • After the Upgrade has finished you should start Visual Anthology on the server only. This completes the installation on this computer - your system is not upgraded until you run the program.
    • If you are upgrading ONLY a single (stand alone) computer - you're done.
    • If you have more than one computer running Visual Anthology you will need to go to the next section and upgrade the workstations.
  • Close out of Anthology on the server but do not turn off the computer - you will need the network connection to upgrade the workstations. Move to the first workstation.

Workstation - You will need to perform the following steps on each computer running Visual Anthology on your network. These instructions assume that your network is installed and in working order.

  • From your workstation computer use Windows Explorer and navigate across the network to the location on the server where you downloaded the Upgrade file. Remember you can't "push" but you can "pull" the upgrade.
  • Make sure all other programs have been closed.
  • Double click on the Upgrade5.14.002.exe file.
  • When you get to the screen "Type of Upgrade" choose the Workstation option. Click Next.
  • You are ready to begin the workstation upgrade. Click Next.
  • The password is the same. Enter the password and click OK.
  • You will need to follow the above steps for each computer running Visual Anthology.
