Our focus
Colleges and universities are complex organizations. Successful operation requires not only coordination across multiple units and potentially thousands of staff, but also an increasing reliance on critical technical systems that power student record keeping, data and analytics tools, and systems that empower engagement across the student lifecycle.
Looking ahead
Among the many issues that this impact area will address this year are student engagement strategies for community colleges, culturally responsive assessment strategies, and alumni engagement strategies. The team regularly receives updates related to policy and legislative issues that impact institutional and operational effectiveness.

Impact Area Lead
Senior Education and Training Specialist in Global Education Services
Erin M. Bentrim, Ph.D. is a senior education and training specialist in global education services at Anthology, Inc. Prior to joining Anthology, Bentrim’s career spanned over 25 years in higher education. Her portfolio includes positions in institutional research, academic and student affairs assessment, and strategic planning. In addition to her administrative roles, Bentrim has experience teaching graduate and undergraduate-level courses in diverse subject matters, including psychology, higher education administration, and educational statistics. Her most recent book is “The Impact of a Sense of Belonging in College: Implications for Student Persistence, Retention, and Success” (2022).
Bentrim holds a Ph.D. in educational psychology and research and an M.Ed. in student personnel services, both from the University of South Carolina. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wofford College, where she earned a B.A. in English.

Dr. Jessica Nichols, Ph.D., brings over a decade of higher education experience to Anthology. As Principal Data Strategy Consultant, Jessica leverages her background as a faculty member, Director of a fully grant-funded evaluation center, Director of Research and Ethics, and Director of Institutional Research to serve institutions. Having built a career focused on monitoring performance and effecting change, Jessica teaches others how to use information and become change agents themselves. Jessica’s expertise with action research, program evaluation, and mobilizing data for continuous improvement informs her collaborations with stakeholders as well as her work designing methods to capture data that are relevant, meaningful, and actionable.
Jessica holds a M.Ed from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. in Instructional Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.
